Patagonia Gear Swap Recap: A Weekend of Community & Sustainability

Pulling from decades of our parent company, Skirack’s beloved bike and winter swaps, we decided it was time to try something new at Patagonia Burlington - a swap event with a Patagonia twist. And so, our inaugural Patagonia Gear Swap was born! Taking methods that Skirack has used for their swaps and with Patagonia’s focus on sustainability and community, allowed us to stand on the shoulders of our own giant.

With the idea of sustainability and circularity in mind, we wanted to host an event that allowed folks to sell the Patagonia items they no longer used or needed so that other community members could purchase them and give the products a new life.

We coordinated sellers’ item intake for 12 days–our longest intake period of any swap–and ran the sale weekend for two full days, September 20th & 21st. We received nearly 1,000 items from many excited sellers around our community, and nearly two-thirds of them sold to equally excited buyers!

The atmosphere of our swap sale weekend was energetic and upbeat. From the buzz of shoppers hunting for treasures to the excitement of sellers seeing their gear go to good use, the event was nothing short of inspiring. It left us eager to run another swap here again and maybe make this a tradition just like Skirack's bike and winter swaps.
