Now that we have learned about the environmental campaigns behind Baggies ™, it’s time to dive a little deeper! Each pair of quintessential Baggies shorts is made using around a 4ft x 4ft square of fishing net that could have easily found its way into the ocean. Wearing a pair of Baggies is a very tangible way to stop pollution and support an incredibly impactful environmental campaign.

We know that our Baggies are now made from the nylon of recycled fishing nets, but what can you really do with these shorts? Let’s hear from our staff at Patagonia Burlington to see how we use Baggies in our daily lives.

Jim:

You can do anything in Baggies. And I have.

Emily:

I received my first pair of baggies as a hand me down from my mom. She purchased them in the late 80’s (which definitely shows). I brought them in a few years ago to be fixed and Patagonia deemed them unrepairable, if that gives you any idea of the condition they were in. So I got out the old sewing needle and patched them myself. They are attached to so many adventures that both my mom and I experienced while wearing them, I doubt they will ever leave my wardrobe.

Kate C.:

I got my first pair of baggies a year ago and I am never going back! I now own two pairs of baggies and wear them almost all the time in the warm weather. They really are perfect for almost anything– hiking, running, swimming, or just hanging out. And if you can get away with grabbing a pair or two in a fun color or pattern, they stand out in the best way! I will never get rid of my baggies.

Holly:

I lived most of my life not knowing what Baggies were. That changed very quickly when I started working for Patagonia Burlington. Not even a year later and I own around six pairs of various lengths, patterns, and materials. I find myself reaching for the shorts for an incredibly large range of activities like hiking, working, lounging, disc golfing, and so much more. Truly can’t get enough of these shorts!

Cedar:

The versatility of Patagonia Baggies keeps me coming back to them every season. Whether I’m hiking, cruising on Church Street, or taking a dip in between the two, my baggies stay dry and comfortable through it all. With classic colors and fun new prints every season, these Patagonia classic shorts are always my go to.
